If you’re still reading, and think that you haven’t got time for all of this I’ll suggest one thing. Switch off, unsubscribe, delete ALL OTHER MARKETING MATERIALS, do NOT sign up for any thing that is not SFM related. Focus on making SFM Work first. Spend all of your time being educated by two of the top marketeers in the country, and do what they suggest.

FOCUS -  Follow One Course Until Successful

Focused time and effort until you have finished the task will get you the success you deserve. We can’t recommend this approach enough, which is why we set up the Fast Track Workshops.

Saturday the 16th April we had our first SFM Fast Track training workshop.

…… And what a brilliant day it was! We had 15 newbie internet marketers in the room for 9.5 hours – Outside the sun was shining, the FA Cup semi final was on TV, they could have been having a BBQ or playing golf… But no, they wanted to spend the day with Stuart Ross, Daniel Wagner, Lisa Arthur and myself (Martyn Hickey).

This to me shows serious dedication… Well done guys.

The whole point of the workshop was to enable every member in the room to complete every step of the ‘getting started’ section. Set up with their foundations build i.e.: capture pages, auto-responders, professional photos, purchasing of domains and their personal branding blog – so they hit the ground running on Monday morning with an online business in place and in a “marketable” position…
The results? Every person in the room went through the steps, which was very rewarding for everyone.

So if you have been looking at your blank SFM profile wondering how to set up your blog, create emails, or even upload your photo then let’s talk about how this workshop can help you. Perhaps you learn best in a workshop, with experts on hand to ask questions and help you through technical hurdles?

If you were there, you will remember that the exercise was to speak with your group and share with each other the reasons WHY you wanted to make a success of your online business. Why you wanted  to sit in front of the computer rather than watch a film on TV, or be in the pub, or out in the garden on a sunny day or  … <insert your excuse here>.

The session was really moving – because each and every person that was chosen by their table to speak, talked about how their why, and the answer was to do something for someone else – for family or for an organisation or to give them personal time to contribute in other ways.

That’s the key to success, to motivation and to simply getting things done. As you read this I ask you to think about why you haven’t done more on the SFM site. Maybe you’re wondering why you aren’t doing it? Do you have a big enough reason?

If you read (and you should) books by the experts on creating a business and motivation, you will know that you must never make the reason about yourself or about the money. If you think ‘I want to be rich and I want to have a nice house, money in the bank, car, etc etc’ then those thoughts wont give you the juice that you need to keep you going when its tough or you have distractions.  It won’t enable you to finish your SFM profile, or register a domain, turn up to a workshop, interact with the community and watch the videos or get traffic to your site and make money on line.

My thoughts to you this weekend are to explore the WHY. Write your thoughts down somewhere you can be reminded of it, and to look at it every day. That will give you the momentum, the motivation and the energy you need to keep going.

Fix your mind on a goal and think of as many reasons as you can why you want that. Honestly, don’t get caught up on the how. Just make the first steps and keep focused. Doubling your income and giving up the day job wont be enough. It may sound enough now, but I promise you it wont be.

One of our members wants to give his kids a deposit for their first house and buy them a car, another wants to pay for a good education. Martyn wanted to be at home for his family, and I needed to get out of corporate because it made me sick. Think about it.  Maybe you want to free up your time so you can work with people who are less fortunate?  Or do you want to create a business that helps others succeed online, and gives you a residual income because you haven’t planned for your retirement?

If you can’t think of a big why right now start with more obvious smaller reasons, and work from there. One  reason to motivate Stuart  was that he wanted to get a dog, and Daniel wanted to be able to ‘afford’ his children!

Our most successful clients have the big reasons behind their online success. Join them and make it happen. Log on you your account now and do just thing: upload your picture, watch a video, read and reply to a forum post. Why? Well, that’s the bit we can’t help you with. For everything else: tech support, training, videos, community, online success all you need to do is log on.

The Go Giver really gave me a fresh perspective. Often we spend so much time in front of the computer bashing away at the keys getting the next job done,  that we can get lost in ourselves – and we forget to connect with others. Building your own business can be a lonely place. One of the most important aspects for success (and keeping sane!)  is your network of peers, of clients, of mentors.

The book made me consider how I can spend quality time with likeminded people, on line, in person and contribute what I know to give the best value, (in a more conscious way). So I looked for adding value this week, not just at work, but in my personal life, and relationships too, and where I could go the extra mile. I even practiced it and to be honest it felt really good!  It also made me think about how open to receiving too, compliments and criticism (got to work on that a bit).

I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘re-steer’ and it was a quick evenings read (thanks SFM member Phill Turner). Just search on Amazon for The Go Giver by Burg & Mann.

Of the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success, my favorite is the first:

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment

The other exposures motivated me to look at where I can share my skills with others. This week I’ve volunteered to help at a local charity and signed up for some networking. I’m lucky, I love my work, but it still can get a bit overwhelming and as we’re not a big team, I could do with a sounding board. I’m also new to the area, so it will be great to get out and meet people. Not the secret millionaire quite yet, but its the principle in practice!

Mark Victor Hansen is a big advocate of giving and the results – check his ‘ideas tithing’ book on line, and also the great new organisation www.givingwhatwecan.org

Being around likeminded people, sharing ideas and helping will turbo boost your own results and helping others is a great feeling. I’m sure you all know that one really important key to success is your mastermind group. That’s what will happen on Saturday at the Momentum Day – and many of you reading this and attending are already helping your team and fellow members immensely. The SFM community  members are awesome people and I am really looking forward to the magic that’s going to happen tomorrow. You just never know who you will meet, or what results come from conversations with likeminded people.

Here at the SFM, we work on a principle of what Tony calls CANI. That’s Constant And Never Ending Improvement, in ourselves, and in our business practices.

CANI is a western interpretation of the Japanese word "Kaizen."  Kai means change and Zen, in this instance, means good.  I’m wondering this week, in light of the situation in Japan, whether they are seeing Kaizen, perhaps not. However in years to come, when they take a step back, perhaps things will look different,  but that’s another discussion all together…..

In practicing CANI in business, we do our very best to seek out what we can change and improve, rather than do the same thing over and over again, and get comfortable. We ask for feedback, we watch what other leaders in business are doing.

Things can take a bit of time to change, whether its implementing something new online, testing and tweeking and getting rid of bugs, event management, or just ‘the way things are done’.

So for those of you who have made suggestions, we are very grateful, we have listened, and rest assured that we are working on it. In fact we will have a LOT to announce to you all at the momentum day on 2nd April. If you haven’t booked your ticket you can do so here

Often CANI can seem that you never get anything right – especially if you are in an entrepreneurial business – where change is the norm.  Often feedback can be that ‘this event went well and next time lets change X and Y’, or ‘OK thats good, but how can we do it even better next time’. This is also true of your own business. My advice to you would be to expect to have CANI feedback, and that things wont be perfect, (just outstanding, right) so you can leave room for improvement!

Tony also says that the quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably live with. Think about that as you are going through the SFM site  and building your online business- some parts of it will need more of your concentration that you expect – you may get a bit uncomfortable, but you will be living the CANI principle and moving forward. Remember that there is support available to you.

Imagine that you make lots of small changes consistently over time, and then all of a sudden you take a step back and realise that you have achieved more than you thought.  How great would that be?

Small steps, constant feedback, always changing. I hope that you can find some time this weekend to move your business forward.
